James H. “Jim” McCollum, age 73, resident of Oakland and husband of Connie Williams McCollum, departed this life Tuesday morning, May 16, 2017 at his residence.

Graveside Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. McCollum were conducted at 1:15 P.M. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. A Memorial Service was held at 3 P.M. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Oakland First Baptist Church. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. McCollum was born September 7, 1943 in Ripley, Tennessee. He received his education in the Lauderdale County Public School System and served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was a Staff Sergeant. He was married July 29, 1966 to the former Connie Williams and was employed as a merchandiser at Crown-Bolt before his retirement. Mr. McCollum was a resident of Oakland since 1999 and was a member of Oakland First Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, collecting old gardening tools and equipment, model fire trucks, antique cars and ceramics.

Mr. McCollum is survived by his wife of 50 years of Connie Williams McCollum of Oakland, TN; two sons, Robert Dewayne McCollum (Shirley) of Oakland, TN, James Kevin McCollum (Michelle) of Jackson, TN; three sisters, Annie Beard of Southaven, MS, Donna Heimemeyer of Ripley, TN, Mary “Lib” Bullard (Jim) of Memphis, TN; his brother, Ernie McCollum (Neva) of Ohio; and five grandchildren, Nathan McCollum, Andrew McCollum, Daniel McCollum, Kiersten McCollum and Dewayne McCollum, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie L. McCollum and Lorene Linderman McCollum; his sister, Betty Sewell; and his brother, Danny McCollum.
