Thomas Raney “Tom” Smith, age 82, resident of Moscow, Tennessee and husband of Bonnie Joann DeCamp Smith, departed this life Friday morning, September 28, 2018 at the Douglas Nursing Home in Milan, Tennessee.

Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow with Bro. David Parlow, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Memphis Memory Gardens. A visitation for Mr. Smith will be from 9 to 11 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Smith was born March 28, 1936 in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. He served his country in the United States Army and received his Bachelor’s Degree at Murray State in Murray, Kentucky, where he was a football player. He was employed at Preble Shawnee High School in Camden, Ohio where he was a teacher and football coach and was also a carpenter for many years. He was married September 25, 1955 to the former Bonnie Joann DeCamp and he was most recently a resident of the Moscow, Tennessee area. Mr. Smith was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow and a member of the Somerville Masonic Lodge. He was a very active square dancer and was the Bid Committee Chairman for the National Square Dance Convention in 1990.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Bonnie Joann Smith of Moscow, TN; his son, Jim Smith (Nancy) of Moscow, TN; two grandchildren, James DeCamp Smith (Julia) of Houston, TX, Jahna Smith of Memphis, TN; and his great-grandson, Wells O. Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Frank Smith and Lucy Lorene Leggett Smith; one sister and two brothers.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1980 Oak Grove Drive, Moscow, TN 38057.
