Listen to Obituary

Arnold De Wayne Birmingham, age 70, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, departed life on Friday morning, April 25, 2025 at his home.

Arnie was born on June 19, 1954 in Kansas, City, Missouri, the son of late Arnold Birmingham Jr. and Hazel Brown Birmingham. He graduated from Arkansas State University with a major in political science and was employed in the corporate telecommunications world for many years (Powertel). After leaving the corporate world, he became a self-employed homebuilder for Swan Development Group, LLC before his retirement in 2023.

Arnie was a man of great strength and kindness who loved sports. Golf was his passion, and he always enjoyed watching his Arkansas Razorbacks. Whether it was through his unwavering support, his sense of humor, or the quiet way he showed up for those he loved, he made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Arnie is survived by his daughter, Taylor Birmingham of Memphis, TN; his son, Andrew Birmingham of Memphis, TN, his granddaughter, Ella Schedler of Lakeland, TN; and his nephew, Joshua Birmingham (Lisa) of Stuart, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Birmingham who lived in Flint, MI.

Per his wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. Instead, the family will be planning a celebration of life in the coming weeks — a time for all who knew and loved him to come together, share memories, and honor the incredible man he was.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Arnie.
