Arther Ray Glover

December 11, 1947 — January 22, 2024

Somerville, Tennessee

Arther Ray Glover, a resident of Somerville, Tennessee, was reunited with his beloved wife, Linda Ann (Johnson) Glover, on Monday, January 22, 2024. Ray, as he was known to many, was 76 years old.

Ray was born on December 11, 1947 at the Armstrong Clinic in Somerville, Tennessee to the late Ray Farris Glover and Margie Ellen (Goodman) Glover. He graduated from Fayette County High School on May 20, 1966 and then married his high school sweetheart, Linda, on May 22, 1966.  Ray and Linda made their home in Somerville, Tennessee and celebrated 57 wonderful years together. Their love and devotion to one another was inspirational to all who knew them.

Together, Ray and Linda raised three children, Sherry A. Score of Somerville, Terry R. Glover of Oakland, and the late Stacey L. King, formerly of Hickory Valley. He was a devoted father and leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love of family, faith, and strong character.

Ray began his career in construction the day after he and Linda were married. He spent the first 25 years learning and refining his trade working for Grady Morris & Son in Somerville, Tennessee. In 1991 he partnered with his friend and coworker, Carlton (Bubba) DeFoor, to form D & G Contractors. He was well known and respected in the industry for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the exceptional quality of his work. Over the span of his 55-year career he left his fingerprint on hundreds of homes, places of worship, educational facilities, and businesses in the community.

Not only was he a great contractor but he was also a great mentor and father figure to many. He never hesitated to share a little guidance and encouragement with those who needed it. It was this quality that earned him the nickname “Pop”.

Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all things outdoors. He enjoyed nothing more than feeding and watching the wildlife from his porch but he never passed up an opportunity for a little time on the water casting a line or an elk hunting trip with some buddies. In the summer you could always count on him to share a variety of fresh vegetables from his garden along with a few tales of how he fought the groundhog or crows to get it.

Ray is survived by his daughter, Sherry A. Score of Somerville, TN; his son, Terry R. Glover (Kelly) of Oakland, TN; two grandsons, Jonathan Brandt Score (Jesica) of Somerville, TN and Michael J. Score of Somerville, TN; his granddaughter, Allison G. Glover of Nashville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife, Linda A. Glover, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacey L. King; his parents, Ray Farris and Margie E. Glover; and his brother, Ronald Terry Glover.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Glover was held at 4 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating.
