Barbara A. Barnes, age 88, a lifelong resident of Somerville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on October 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Somerville to Walter Gordon and Corean Chambers Graham. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Commander Richard A. Barnes (U.S. Navy); her parents; and her brother, Jimmy Graham.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Parks (Rodney) and Laura Walker (Blain); her sister, Peggy Carothers; two brothers, Larry Graham and Mickey Graham; and five beloved grandchildren, Paige Walker, Richard Parks, Ragan Walker( Learyn Miller), Kendall Bullock (Cody), and Emma Walker.
Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Fayette County High School, where she served as Salutatorian. She went on to attend Southern Methodist University and Memphis State University, and she taught school prior to her marriage. She was married to the love of her life on March 25, 1960, at First Presbyterian Church of Somerville.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Somerville, Barbara faithfully taught Sunday School for 50 years. She loved her Lord, her church, and her community. At home, she found joy in caring for her family, cooking, gardening, and tending to her flowers while watching the hummingbirds.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Somerville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Bro. Stan Smith of First Baptist Church of Somerville and Justin Wainscott of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Tennessee, will officiate. Pallbearers are Bill Newby, David Newby, Jerry Graham, Dade Graham, Gordon Graham and Terry Graham. Honorary pallbearer will be Kenny Graham. Interment will be in Somerville City Cemetery.
Barbara’s life was a reflection of faith, devotion, and love—an example and blessing to all who knew her.
