Barbara Ann Johnson

Barbara Ann Funderburk Johnson, of Oakland, Tennessee, devoted wife of Ollie Eugene “Gene” Johnson for 62 years, was born in Tremont, Mississippi, on April 27, 1943, to the late Charles and Miga Mitchell Funderburk. Barbara’s life was centered around her family. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her kids and grandkids play sports—she was their biggest supporter. She cherished time spent at family gatherings, trips to the beach, visits to Reelfoot Lake, Bunko with her friends and most especially sitting on her back porch. During her working years, she was employed by Sears in catalog fulfillment and later in life at Select-O-Hits with many of her close friends.

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, Barbara went to be with the Lord at her home in Oakland, Tennessee, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeff Johnson; and a host of brothers and sisters. Barbara leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Gene Johnson; her daughter, Angie Johnson; her son, Jackie Johnson (Teri); her sister, Lurlie Lee; her brothers, Ricky Funderburk and Olen Funderburk; five grandchildren, Megan James (Justin), Jacob Johnson (Mallory), Trent Johnson (Kasey), Charleston Meyer (Matt), and Cooper Johnson; and six great‑grandchildren, Bryson Johnson, Analeigh Johnson, Harper Minyard, Kai Johnson, Everett Johnson, and Jase Johnson. 

Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 1 PM to 3 PM, followed by the service at 3 PM at Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home. Pastor Hollaway of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Rossville, Tennessee, will officiate. Interment will follow at Fayette County Memorial Park.
