CARL SHAFFER NEWCOMER

CARL SHAFFER NEWCOMER, a resident of the Moscow Community and retired Steel Contractor, died at 12:45 P.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital of Fayette in Somerville where he had been a patient for eight days. He was 62 years of age and died following a four-month illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Newcomer were private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Newcomer was born May 25, 1946, in Boling Springs, PA, and was preceded in death by his parents; Paul Bryant Newcomer and Thelma Beatrice Shaffer Newcomer. He was educated in the Pennsylvania Public School System and at Pennsylvania State University. He served as a Steel Engineer for companies in Pennsylvania and moved to the Mid-South area in later years. He was a former resident of Collierville before becoming a resident of Moscow.

Mr. Newcomer was a member of the Church of Christ and after his retirement served as a salesman for area companies. His interests included pets and music.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Joan Gordon, a native of Batesville, MS. Mr. Newcomer is also survived by his step-daughter, Lisa Seaton of Byhalia, MS; two step-sons, James Chrestman of Southaven and Michael Haney of Murfreesboro, TN and five step-grandchildren.
