Charlene Kee Hurst

Charlene K. Hurst, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at NHC in Somerville, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born August 11, 1935, in Somerville, Tennessee, to the late Hosea Kee and Lola Markle Kee. Charlene married Warren Hurst, Jr., on February 14, 1976, and together they shared many cherished years.

Charlene was employed in the garment industry at Salant & Salant Factory in Somerville for many years. She found joy in life's simple pleasures-working in her flower garden, tending to her houseplants, and watching birds. In her earlier years, she faithfully served at her church. Charlene had a caring heart and always made sure those around her were taken care of.

She especially loved cooking and preparing home-cooked meals for her family. Holidays and family gatherings at her home were among her greatest joys. She stayed closely connected with her siblings, enjoying daily phone conversations, and was known as a devoted neighbor and friend. Charlene will be remembered for her sweet spirit and warm smile.

She is survived by ,her son, Randy Kee (Sheila); her step-daughter, Gwen Gruthoff (Mitchell); her stepson, Russell Hurst (Debbie); two sisters, Peggy Smith and Betty Faye Joyner; two brothers, Thurman "Bubba" Kee and Perry Kee; two grandchildren, Jennifer King (Frankie) and Justin Kee (Christina); five step-grandchildren, Chris Burns, Stephen Burns, Jessica Meadows, Timothy Burns, and Cori Henley; three great-grandchildren, Laura-Beth King, Hannah King, and Canyon Kee; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Hurst, Jr.; her parents; her in-laws, Warren Hurst Sr. & Mary Hurst, her sister, Kathryn "Sis" Nix; and six brothers, Ray Kee, Franklin Kee, Harrell Kee, Bobby Kee, Jackie Kee, and Hosea Kee, Jr.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hurst will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Peebles West Funeral Chapel near Oakland, Tennessee, with Bobby Kee officiating. Interment will follow at Somerville City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Harlan Kee, Byron Smith, Justin Kee, Dillon Nix, Roland Joyner, and David Kee. Honorary pallbearers are Canyon Kee and Frankie King.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
