Charles Phillips, age 83, resident of Rossville, Tennessee and husband of Bettye McDowell Phillips, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on May 2, 2026, at Collierville Baptist Hospital, Collierville, TN.

Charles accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in 1968 and was baptized into the family of God on June 16, 1968. Charles had the gift of mercy. He loved people and always looked for opportunities to help and serve them.

Charles was born August 18, 1942, in Bradford, Tennessee, the son of the late Roy Wade Phillips and the late Edna Pauline Davis Phillips Victory. He graduated from Beech Bluff High School, Beech Bluff, Tennessee. He attended Business College in Jackson, Tennessee and later attended West Tennessee Community College. Charles worked as an Engineer for Texas Automatic Sprinklers for several years. Then he went to work at United Parcel Service in 1975. He retired from UPS with 33 years of service in October of 2008.

Charles was a member of Peterson Lake Baptist Church, Collierville, TN. He was a gentle loving person and if you needed help, he was always there for you. When not at work or helping someone else, he enjoyed riding horses. He had an Arabian mare, Jafra. They were made for each other. He also liked to train and show dogs in Obedience Trials. He liked golf and working out at the gym. He enjoyed woodworking and took up photography in the later years of his life, and he was a very good photographer. Most of all Charles loved being involved with his church and the community.

Charles is survived by his wife, Bettye Phillips, his sister, Susan Wood, his brother, Roy Wade Phillips, Jr, his sister-in-law, Yolanda Phillips, his sister-in-law, Peggy McDowell, his niece, October McDowell, his brother-friend, John Bryant, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
