Listen to Obituary

Charles Paul Richenback, age 93, of Oakland, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 26, 2026.

Charles was born on April 12, 1933, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to the late Harry and Marie Hancock Richenback. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1950 until 1953. Following his military service, Charles enjoyed a long career as a truck driver, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.

Throughout his life, Charles embraced many passions. In his younger years, he enjoyed raising and showing rabbits and spent many happy hours riding horses with friends. Later in life, he rediscovered his love of dancing and looked forward to dancing every Saturday night. No matter how late the evening, he was always ready to worship and praise the Lord on Sunday morning.

In 1959, Charles married the love of his life, Johnnie Patterson Richenback, and together they raised four children: Charles Richenback Jr. (Barbara), John Richenback, Sandra Richenback, and Donna Baker (Stephen). Their family grew to include six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Following the passing of his beloved wife, Johnnie, in 2010, Charles was blessed with love once again when he married Mary Ann Hinkson in 2021. Their marriage united two families into one. Charles lovingly welcomed Mary's children: Clay Hinkson (Serena), Bettra Hinkson, Tina Caldwell (David), Cindy Phillipps (Kurt), and Terrie Wallace. Together, they shared the joy of a large family that included 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a cherished God-grandson, Jesse Hayes, along with his four great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Patterson Richenback; his son, John Richenback; and his grandson, Brandon Joyner.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to his family. Charles treasured his large family and his church family, but above all else, he loved the Lord. In his own recent words, which beautifully reflected the peace and assurance of his faith, he said, "I'm ready to go hug Jesus!"

A funeral service honoring the life of Charles Richenback will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, Tennessee. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Hill East Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Stephen Boughton, Bobby Joyner, Jesse Hayes, Clay Hinkson, David Caldwell, and Kurt Phillipps. Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Burns and Dennis Hayes.

Though he will be deeply missed, Charles's unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.
