Faye Joann Herring, age 88 and resident of Eads, TN, died on July 14, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 3, 1937, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Byron Cogdell Rhome and Lillie Faye Schiflett Rhome.
Joann’s journey during her early years is where the roots of her gentle strength first took hold. She grew up in Dallas, Texas, but spent much of her life in Alaska; a place she called home for forty years before moving to Tennessee. Throughout her long life, she cultivated warmth and kindness wherever she went, touching the lives of those around her. Joann was an award-winning quilter and artist. She used her hands to create beautiful masterpieces that her friends and family will treasure. She was a long-time member of the Fayette County Quilters, and Fiber Artist and the Cotton Patchers. Joann embraced each chapter of her years with quiet resilience and a steady, nurturing love.
Those fortunate enough to call her Mom is her daughter Laura Renken and husband Thomas, and her son Jerry Herring and his wife Kathy. Her most precious grandchildren, Brent Renken, Ross Renken, Shari Nafziger, Keith Herring and Brian Herring, and nine great grandchildren know her as GG. She also leaves behind one brother, Jerry Rhome
She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Cogdell Rhome and Lillie Faye Schiflett Rhome, and one son, John Herring, Jr.
As we remember Faye Joann Herring, we give thanks for her life and hold close the cherished memories of her time with us. The family will have a time of gathering together in Texas at a later date.
