Gerald Thomas Halfacre, a selfless soul whose life illuminated the paths of many, made his grand exit from this world on March 28, 2026. Thomas was born on March 21, 1973, and was wound tight with a unique personality full of many talents that carried him throughout his remarkable journey here on earth. Now we are left behind with a trail of laughter, craft projects, and baffled gaming opponents.
A 1991 graduate of Colonial High School in Memphis, Thomas devoted his professional life to his passion as the owner of Halfacre Audio and Lighting. He didn’t just hear music--he brought it to life with the balance of a complicated board and unique lights, lasers and set-up designs. His expertise not only brought sound and light to countless events but also created unforgettable experiences for many of us. If you ever found yourself dazzled by a lighting setup or enchanted by a perfectly mixed sound, chances are Thomas had a hand in making that magic happen. He made others shine, never asking for the spotlight himself. He was the unseen hand behind every perfect moment on stage, and although he may have stood behind the sound board, his impact was always front and center. Thomas was much more than a business whiz. He was a crafting maestro, a gaming gladiator, a creative project guru, and the reigning king of sarcasm—perhaps all at once.
Those close to him cherish his quick wit and ever-present sarcasm, a testament to his vibrant personality that brought laughter into every room. Above all, Thomas’s proudest accomplishment was his family and his unwavering willingness to help others. His selflessness was evident in every gesture. He was a true family man and loved his family more than words can tell a story.
Speaking of family, Thomas is survived by a lively bunch who will forever hold his memory close. His two daughters, Megan Archer and Keighlin Archer both of Bartlett, TN; son-in-law Jack Slay from Houston, Texas; and Mother of his children, Kathy Archer of Bartlett, TN. And lest we forget, the grandpets: the dogs, Stella and Lola, who might just bark in perfect sync to Thomas’s favorite tunes, the cats Bap and Bean, who undoubtedly judge everyone silently, and Gurgi the lizard, the coolest reptile in Bartlett. Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo King, and his stepfather, George Stone.
On April 8, 2026, you’re invited to bring your biggest smiles, and maybe a little bit of your “Thomas sarcasm vibes” to The Peabody Memphis Rooftop for a Memorial Gathering starting at 5:30 PM. A Celebration of Thomas’ Life will begin at 7:00 PM. What better way to honor a man who loved both good company, good sound and good lighting, right? As Thomas would say, "Was that over the top? I never can tell".
Thomas Halfacre was the kind of guy who could light up a room, strike the perfect chord, and roll his eyes at misadventures—all at the same time. And now, even though he’s taken his final bow, his story—and his snark—will shine on forever. Rest easy, Thomas—you’ve earned it, you magnificent, selfless, crafting, sarcastic legend.
We invite you to take a moment and share your favorite memories, stories and photos below. You know Thomas loved his girls and this will be an area they can come back to and read these memories for years to come.
