Helen (German) Ammons

Helen German Ammons, age 87, resident of Gallaway, Tennessee, departed this life Saturday afternoon, September 11, 2021 at Gallaway Health Care Center.

Helen was born June 19, 1934 in Fayette County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late James Madison German and Para lee Oliver German. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and was employed as an office manager for Malone & Hyde in Memphis, Tennessee before her retirement. She was a resident of the Memphis area for much of her adult life before returning to Fayette County after her retirement.

Helen was married April 5, 1969 to Edward V. Ammons who preceded her in death on December 11, 2000. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening and taking care of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Ammons is survived by two daughters, Vickie Sutphin (Tommy) of Munford, TN and Cheryl Burnette of Oakland, TN; two sons, Les Long (Linda) of Appleton, WI and Russell Long (Beaver) of Oakland, TN; two sisters, Laura Stevens of Manila, AR and Jean Mays of Oakland, TN; eleven grandchildren, Sherri, Micah, James, Cody, Amber, Austin, Dalton, Jacob, Brandon, Suzanne and Timothy; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Hyde, Thelma Davis and Martha Ann Skelton; and six brothers, Newsom German, James German, Earl German, Charlie German, Layton German and Glenn German.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ammons will be held at 4 P.M. Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little, pastor of Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, officiating. A private interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery – East in Memphis. A visitation for Mrs. Ammons will be from 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Brandon Long, Timothy Long, Mark Hollaway, Kane Stricker and Jerry Skelton.
