Herbert Ray Matheny, Sr.

Herbert Ray Matheny, Sr., age 76, of Gallaway, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.

Mr. Matheny was born on February 3, 1949, in Gallaway, Tennessee, to the late Robert and Hazel Matheny. He was a self-employed carpenter who took great pride in his work and enjoyed using his skills to help others. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Matheny Rankins of Horn Lake, Mississippi; three sons, Mike Matheny (Barbara), Matt Matheny, and Ray Matheny, Jr., all of Horn Lake; two sisters, Adrian Goff of Somerville, Tennessee, and Faye Hoskins of Ripley, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Opal Matheny; and four brothers, Ben Matheny, Charlie Matheny, Ronnie Matheny, and Bobby Matheny.

A graveside service for Mr. Matheny was at 1 Monday afternoon, November 3, 2025, at Burrows Cemetery.
