Listen to Obituary

Staff Sergeant John Thomas Rutland lll, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 6th, 2025 at the age of 33.

Born on December 31, 1991, John was a bright, energetic child who loved turtles, skateboarding, and earning his black belt in Taekwondo. As he grew, his passion for learning and building never faded - he inherited his father and goodaddy’s love for cars and became a true “motorhead.”

John went on to own and operate Pro Fitness Gym equipment, where he worked on and sold fitness equipment with pride and dedication.
His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to establish Feasible Arms, a company specializing in gun parts. Always striving to grow, John became certified in cyber security, continuing to challenge himself and expand his skills.

A proud and dedicated soldier, Staff Sergeant Rutland served actively in the U.S. Army National Guard. His service included a deployment to Ukraine and completion of Mountain Warfare School in Vermont and Basic Leadership Course in Connecticut - testaments to his strength, courage, and commitment to his country.

John’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Rutland, and their children Harper and Mark Rutland, his son Ian Rutland, along with his bonus daughter Shelby Winter. He is also survived by his mother Amy Rutland (fiancée Leslie Maddox); his sisters Heather King (Col. John King) and Lauren Rutland (wife & son), and his adored nieces and nephews - J.R., Magnolia, Marshall, Mabel, and Alistair King.

He was preceded in death by his father John
Thomas Rutland Jr., his grandparents Leon and Darthy Marshall; John and Rebecca Rutland and his Uncle Leon Ray Marshall Jr.

John will be remembered for his ability to learn new skills, never ending ideas, generous heart, deep love for his family, and unwavering devotion to those he served alongside.
His laughter, determination, and love will live on in the hearts of all that knew him.

“ The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
