Johnny Joseph Kight, age 79, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life on May 23, 2026, at Magnolia Creek in Covington, Tennessee. He was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi on January 16, 1947, to the late Johnny Purvis Kight and Eva Mae Mozingo Kight.
Johnny attended Yazoo City High School and later retired from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office after years of dedicated service. On August 24, 1966, he married the love of his life, Bernadine Leach Kight, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and music. They faithfully attended Mercy’s Bridge Church in Somerville, Tennessee.
Music was one of Johnny’s greatest passions throughout his life. He loved playing the guitar, piano, and bass and shared that gift with many over the years. More than anything, Johnny cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Mr. Kight is survived by his two sons, Dr. John J. Kight (Zackary Conner) and Steven R. Kight (Patricia Kight); five grandchildren, Elizabeth N. Maxwell, Shelby Kight (Simone Soulnier), Katlyn Kight, Logan Kight, and Brady Parsons; and six great-grandchildren, Avery Stanley, Grayson Stanley, Camilla Maxwell, Brett Massey, Skylar Bea Kight, and Remie Jae Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernadine Leach Kight; his parents, Johnny Purvis Kight and Eva Mae Mozingo Kight; and his brother, William Monroe Kight.
Funeral Services for Mr. Kight will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday morning, May 29, 2026, at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Kevin Treadway officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Somerville.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 28, 2026, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Allen Parsons, Brady Parsons, Logan Kight, Grayson Stanley, Simone Soulnier, and Jerry Davidson. Honorary pallbearers are Will Miller and Damon Wooley.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy’s Bridge Church in Somerville, Tennessee.
