Listen to Obituary

Joseph Michael “Mike” Thomas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and faithful servant of God and the Savior, Jesus Christ, passed away on September 29, 2026, in Germantown, Tennessee, at the age of 73.

Mike was born May 22, 1953, in Weaver, South Dakota, to Joseph Pridgeon Thomas and Cleo Anne Romero. He shared a loving life with his wife, Lisa Kay Byrd Thomas. He was the father of Jacob Samuel Thomas and John Gabriel Thomas, who predeceased him, and a proud grandfather to Adin, Cameron, and Harris. He is also survived by his brothers, Stephen (Lulu) Thomas and Seab (Cristine) Thomas, along with extended family and many friends.

Mike’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. His family was at the center of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments, happiness, and the lives they were building. The love he gave them and the memories they shared will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Science from Memphis State University and a Master of Science from the University of Arkansas. He enjoyed a successful career in medical sales and retired as a Regional Sales Director.

A stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mike served in numerous leadership and service assignments, including as a counselor in the Memphis Tennessee Stake presidency. He served a full-time mission from 1975 to 1977 in the Mexico Mérida and Texas San Antonio Missions. From 2001 to 2004, Mike and Lisa served as mission leaders of the Mexico Mexico City West Mission, helping open the new mission. Later, they served as service missionary advisors in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission.

One of Mike’s greatest pleasures was hearing from his missionaries in Mexico and the United States. He loved learning about their successes, their families, and the lives they were building through almost weekly phone calls and biannual reunions.

Mike will be remembered for his love of family, devotion to his faith, kindness, humor, wisdom, and willingness to serve others. His influence will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
