Joseph M. Willwerth, 92, of Mason, Tennessee, passed away on September 3rd, 2026 while surrounded by his family.
Mr. Willwerth proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years. He served in the Korean war, as well as Vietnam war. His service was something he carried with him throughout his entire life. He was proud of his country, proud of his uniform, and proud to have answered the call to serve.
While his country was important to him, his family was his heart.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Carole proceeded him in death as did their daughter Wanda.
Mr. Willwerth is survived by his children, Connie (Steve), Joe (Joan), and Kelley; grandchildren, Amy (Jason), Heather (Chad), Stephanie (Robbie), Jamie (Tommy), Ray (Brittany), Emily and Casey (Nick), and 12 great grandchildren. Each one carries their own special memories of him. He is survived by a sister, Jean Wood.
He was a member of Great Oaks Church of Christ where he was baptized two years ago, at the age of 90. His faith was yet another important part of his life.
Mr. Willwerth loved deer hunting and looked forward to opening day every year. Somehow, year after year, he always seemed to drag a deer home on opening day.
Not only does Papaw leave behind a lifetime of memories he leaves behind a family who carries his love, his example and his many stories with them.
We will miss him, miss seeing him, hearing his voice, and hearing his stories. But thinking of him will cause us to smile.
Dad, Papaw thank you for your service. Thank you for the memories. You’ll always be a part of our family and will never be forgotten.
Services for Mr. Willwerth will be private.
