Listen to Obituary

Judy Arlene Wakefield, age 77, passed away on January 14, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Judy was born in Greeneville, Mississippi, to George Lackey and Hilda McCool, and spent her later years as a resident of Bartlett, Tennessee. She lived a life marked by kindness, patience, and a deep compassion for others—qualities that defined her and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She proudly served in the United States Air Force before continuing her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis and a Master of Business Administration from Christian Brothers University. Judy devoted her professional career to Human Resources at Power and Tel, where her caring nature and dedication to helping others were evident in all she did.

Judy had a quiet spirit and a gentle way about her. She found joy in life’s simple, beautiful moments—traveling (especially to Hawaii, her favorite place, which she visited many times), watching birds and squirrels at the park, taking photographs, enjoying a good book, and driving with the windows down, feeling the breeze. She never missed a sunset; if there was one to be seen, Judy was there. She lived fully in the moment, appreciating the world around her with grace and gratitude.

Above all, Judy cherished her family. Though small in number, they were deeply close, and her love for them was unwavering. She was known as the most selfless and compassionate person, endlessly patient and kind. She was truly loved by so many.

She is survived by her brother, Harvey Lackey, and her grandchild, Kara Wakefield.

She was preceded in death by her best friend, Jerry Wakefield; her sons, Jerry O. Wakefield and Joshua Wakefield; her parents, George Lackey and Hilda McCool; her sisters, Darlene and Carol; and her brother, Carl.

Judy Arlene Wakefield will be remembered for her gentle heart, quiet strength, and the love she so freely gave. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the many sunsets that now carry her peace.
