Linda Oliver Shelly

Linda Oliver Shelly of Somerville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026.

Born on March 13, 1948, Linda graduated from Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee, Class of 1966. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1971 and a Master’s degree in Psychology in 1972 from Texas Woman’s University. Linda dedicated her career to serving others as a school psychologist with Memphis City Schools for 30 years, impacting countless students and families with her care and wisdom.

Linda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family deeply. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters, who brought immeasurable light to her life. She was a longtime member of St. Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church in Memphis. After relocating to Somerville, she joined Faith United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Newton Shelly, Jr.; her daughter, Elizabeth Shelly Perkins (Joshua), of Memphis; and her beloved granddaughters, Reagan Leigh Perkins and Rachel Elise Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl W. Oliver, Sr.; her mother, Clara Feathers Oliver; her sister, Nancy Oliver Life; and her brother, Carl W. Oliver, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with burial following at Somerville City Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
