Linda Joan Smith, age 80, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at her home.
Linda was born October 14, 1945 in Clarksville, Tennessee, the daughter of David “Dave” Thompson and Edna Minton Thompson. She graduated from Clarksville High School in 1963. She began her career in furniture sales for many years and then went on to management positions for many more years prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Smith had a love for life and laughter. She loved flowers and watching hummingbirds and also had a passion for cooking. Linda enjoyed watching forensic shows as well as Tennessee Titan football and baseball. She will fondly be remembered for the love and dedication she had for her family and grandchildren and the love she had for all animals.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Kenny Smith of Somerville, Tennessee; one son, Joey Phillips (Renee) of Clarksville, Tennessee; one sister, Lee Ann Carter of Woodlawn, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Seth Phillips of Lakeland, Tennessee and Landon Phillips of St. Louis, Missouri; and her loyal pet companion “Buddy.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Captain Dale Phillips; three brothers, Jimmie Thompson, Herschel Thompson and Anthony Thompson; and one niece, Jeanette Warren.
A visitation for Mrs. Smith will be from 10:00 to 12:00 PM Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Peebles Main Chapel in Somerville, Tennessee. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, June 24, 2026 with Celebrant Jennifer Tilghman officiating. Interment will follow in Somerville City Cemetery. In honor of Mrs. Linda, the family requests that you come just as you are.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kenny Smith, Joey Phillips, Seth Phillips, Richard Huff, Aaron Thompson, Kevin Thompson and Scott Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Thompson, Bailey Thompson and Tim White.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the ASCPA, 424 E. 92nd St. New York, NY 10128-6804.
