Carol James Shelton, age 83, resident of Arlington, Tennessee and husband of Doris Jane Lewis Shelton, departed this life Thursday afternoon, May 22, 2025 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Carol was born September 19, 1941 in Afton, Tennessee, the son of the late Larson Eldrige Shelton and Ethel Lavona Fellers Shelton. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 until 1968 and was employed as an electronics technician before his retirement. Carol was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing, crafting and woodworking. He will be remembered for being a family man who loved his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife, Doris Jane Shelton; three daughters, Michelle Shelton, Rebecca Bagwell (Joseph) and Wanda Coopwood (Coop); three sons, Kevin Shelton (Renea), Daniel Arnett and Joseph Arnett; his brother, Steve Shelton (Betty); fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Arnett; two sisters, Linda Townsend and Brenda Hubbard; and his brother, William “Bud” Shelton.
A visitation for Mr. Shelton will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Funeral Services will be at 6 P.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Randy Buse officiating. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
