J. Paul Burrow, resident of Somerville, retired law enforcement officer and decorated U.S. Army Veteran, died AT 7:15 A.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson. He was 85 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Burrow were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, May 10th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Connie Wright, pastor of the House of Faith Ministries in Somerville, officiating. He was assisted by Mr. Burrow's granddaughters husband, Keith Posey, Jr. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community of Fayette County. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Burrow was born October 18, 1922, in Braden, Tennessee, the son of the late Olian Banks Burrow and the late Bonnie Eunice Dempsey Burrow. Mr. Burrow was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. Mr. Burrow was married April 4, 1948, to the former Clarice Cole, who survives. Mr. Burrow was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a member of the Braden United Methodist Church. He was employed by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department for twenty-seven years before his retirement. An accomplished horseman, Mr. Burrow had a lifelong love for horses and he was known throughout the area for his skills in horse training. Mr. Burrow was one of the last "horse traders" in our area.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Burrow is survived by his sister, Marie Hughes of Memphis; two grandchildren, Rebecca Burrow Gray (J.Paul), Paula Burrow Posey (Keith, Jr.) and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Burrow was preceded in death by a son, Olian Burrow and a brother, Billy Jack Burrow.
