Samuel Harrison Williams, Jr.

January 2, 1954 — October 19, 2007

SAMUEL HARRISON "SAM" WILLIAMS, JR., a resident of Memphis and a former resident of the Braden/Gallaway Communities died at 5:55 P.M. Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Methodist Hospital North in Memphis where he had been a patient for 2 days. He was 53 years of age and died after an extended illness of 2 years.


Funeral services for Mr. Williams were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, October 25th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Special remarks were given by Debra Stegall and Rev. Loyd Shelton. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.


Mr. Williams was born January 2, 1954 in Shelby County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel H. Williams, Sr. and Loretta Ray Williams. He moved at an early age with his family to Fayette County and received his education in the Fayette County Public School System at Braden.


Mr. Williams was involved in construction and building throughout much of his life and retired several years ago for health reasons. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong resident of Shelby and Fayette Counties. He will be remembered as a private person who enjoyed his independence.


Survivors of Mr. Williams include three daughters, Samantha Knight of Cordova, Stacy Williams of Memphis and Heather Anderson of Stanton; his son, Jason Williams of Memphis; his sister, Debra Stegall of Memphis; 2 brothers, Ray Williams of Hickory Withe and Arthur Williams of Somerville; 2 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Carl Williams.


Casketbearers were family and friends.
