Sandra Kay Swain

Sandra Kay Swain, age 79, a resident of Bartlett, Tennessee, departed this life at Methodist Healthcare Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born on September 8, 1946, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Walter R.E. Jones and Marietta Argubright Jones.

Sandra attended Treadwell High School and devoted her life to both her family and her community. She began her career at General Electric, where she helped manufacture the beautiful vintage Christmas lights that brightened countless homes during the holiday season. She later chose to step away from the workforce to become a devoted stay-at-home mother, raising her beloved daughters, Cheri and Terri Lee. Once her daughters were older, Sandra returned to work as a teacher's assistant at Altruria Elementary School in Bartlett, where she became a familiar and cherished face to generations of students. It was not uncommon for children throughout Bartlett to excitedly greet her with, "Mrs. Swain!" whenever they saw her around town.

On October 1, 1970, Sandra married the love of her life, Norman Terry Swain. Together they shared forty-four wonderful years of marriage, building a beautiful life together until Terry's passing in 2014.

Sandra's greatest joy was her family. She faithfully supported her daughters in every stage of their lives. For Cheri, she served as a room mother, field trip driver, Girl Scout volunteer, and enthusiastic basketball fan. Terri Lee was often by her mother's side as the school mascot, accompanied by Sandra and her sister. When Terri Lee began school, Sandra continued her tireless involvement as a PTA board member, room mother, field trip leader, Girl Scout volunteer, and devoted soccer fan. Her dedication to Altruria Elementary was so evident that Mr. Johnson eventually encouraged her to join the staff as a teacher's assistant, a role she embraced with love and compassion.

Sandra also had a passion for traveling. She and Terry enjoyed many memorable adventures throughout the western United States and into Canada. She treasured annual girls' trips with Cheri and Terri Lee, and in later years delighted in sharing those special travels with her grandchildren, Bailey, Piper, and Case, creating treasured memories that will live on for generations.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cheri Swain Hagen (Steve) and Terri Lee Swain Hardison (Chad); her sister, Linda Lee See; her four beloved grandchildren, Alexis Hagen, Bailey Hardison (Alex), Piper Hardison (Logan), and Case Hardison; and her nieces and nephews, Michelle Russell (John), Rick Swain (Alberta), and Dana Howeth.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norman Terry Swain; her father-in-law, Charles A. Swain; her mother-in-law, Fay Seward Swain; her aunt, Helen Ruth Swain; her two brother in laws, Charles Richard Swain and Rodney See; and her sister-in-law, Pat Swain.

A visitation for Mrs. Swain will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment will be private with the family.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Steve Hagen, Chad Hardison, Case Hardison, Alex Gansman, and Logan McClanahan.

Sandra will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her servant's heart, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, encouragement, and dedication to the children of her community. Her legacy of love, generosity, and faithful devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
