William Joseph "Joe" Hughes

Whiteville, Tennessee

William Joseph “Joe” Hughes, age 79, resident of Whiteville, Tennessee and husband of the late Carolyn Sayles Hughes, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2024 at his home.

Joe was born October 3, 1944 in the Warren Community of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll Edmond Hughes and Mattie Lee Esther Davidson Hughes. Joe received his education in the Warren School System and was married September 17, 1963 to Carolyn Faye Sayles Hughes who preceded him in death on October 1, 2020. He was a farmer throughout his life and was in the sheetrock business for many years. Joe was a member of Warren Assembly of God and enjoyed coon, rabbit and squirrel hunting and gardening.

Mr. Hughes is survived by three sons, Brian Hughes (Felicia) of Oakland, TN, Billy Hughes (Jennifer) of Whiteville, TN and Robert Hughes of Whiteville, TN; his daughter-in-law, Amy Hughes of Gallaway, TN; his brother, Charles Hughes; two sisters, Sandra Peeler and Evelyn King; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sandy Dean Hughes; two sisters, Earline Hughes and Dorothy Keen; three brothers, James “Buddy” Hughes, Franklin “Junior” Hughes and Bobby Hughes; and his grandson, Hunter Allen Hughes.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hughes were held at 3 P.M. Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church. The officiating ministers were Bro. Leon Watkins and Bro. Billy Adair. Interment followed in Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Devin White, Travis Hughes, Jacob Hughes, Grant Hughes, Dylan Liscome and Jonathan Redden. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Hughes, Cody Jennings, Terry Baldwin and Stephen New.
