Betty (Watson) Wright

Bartlett, Tennessee

Betty Watson Wright, known to many as “Granny Betty”, age 81, resident of Bartlett, Tennessee and wife of the late Frank Wright, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, August 6, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wright were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. John Ed Watkins, pastor of Mercy’s Bridge Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed at Eads Cemetery in Eads, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Betty was born March 23, 1938 in Sarah, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Henry Bedford Watson and Alma Leona Johnson Watson. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and was married November 27, 1954 to Frank Wright, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1997. Betty was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed crocheting and special times with her family.

Mrs. Wright is survived by three daughters, Linda Wright of Munford, TN, Dianne Cates and her husband, Troy of Bartlett, TN, Doris McClendon and her husband, Edward of Rossville, TN; two sons, William Wright and his wife, Rennie of Atlanta, GA, Jackie Wright of Byhalia, MS; her sister, Linda Goforth of Bartlett, TN; her brother, Phillip Watson; fifteen grandchildren, over thirty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darla Wright; three sons, Ronnie Wright, Jimmy Wright, Dennis Wright; and three brothers, Wayne Watson, Dewey Watson and Roger Watson.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Kevin Galyon, Edward Polk, Robert Goforth, Donnie McClendon, Richard Watson and Jason Goforth.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Christine Parks, 402 Midland Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
