J. Phillip Holland

Joseph Phillip Holland, a resident of the Rossville Community in Fayette County, U. S. Army Veteran and husband of Joyce Holland, departed this life at 3 A.M. Friday morning, November 7, 2008 at his Rossville home on Clement Drive. He was 60 years of age and died unexpectedly.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Holland was conducted at 5 P.M. Sunday, November 9th at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with the Rev. Will Barnes, Pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Rossville, officiating. Interment will be private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Holland was born November 23, 1947 in Memphis, the son of the late C. J. Holland and the late Anna Hightower Holland. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and was married to the former Joyce Keaton, a native of Nashville, TN, who survives.

Mr. Holland served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Period and was a former resident of the Capleville Community in Shelby County before moving to the Rossville Community in 1974. He was of the Baptist Faith and was employed as a Superintendent for the Standard Builders Incorporated of Memphis at the time of his death.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Special television programs and times with his grandchildren were favorite pastimes.

In addition to his wife of 38 years, Mr. Holland is survived by three daughters, Christy Holland Wilson of Moscow; Wendi Holland Raines (Brian) of Arlington and Casey Holland (Josh) of Moscow; three sons, Shawn Holland (Brooke) of Memphis; Brandy Holland (Wendy) of Pensacola, FL and Greg Holland (Cassandra) of Somerville; two sisters, Helen Ledbetter of Hernando, MS and Birdie Raines of Southaven; six brothers, Bob Holland and Sonny Holland, both of Clinton, LA; Alvin Holland of Olive Branch, MS; Ronnie and Marvin Holland, both of Clinton, LA and Danny Wilbanks of Bolivar and seventeen grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Parrish and three brothers, Paul Faust, Eddie Hightower and Greg Fitch.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 5300 Highway 194, Rossville, TN 38066.
