Myrtle Harrison Tye Wood

August 20, 1919 — October 14, 2016

Myrtle Harrison Tye Wood, age 97, resident of Memphis and wife of the late Walton E. Wood, departed this life Friday afternoon, October 14, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Wood were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Justin Adkins officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Wood was born August 20, 1919 in Lodi, Mississippi. She was employed as a factory worker for many years and was the wife of Walton E. Wood. Mrs. Wood was a member of the United Church of God, a Worldwide Association, in Germantown and enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Mrs. Wood's survivors include two daughters, Ruby F. Pontarelli of Chicago, IL, Shirley J. Forrester (Jim) of Memphis, TN; three sons, William E. Wood (Jan) of Bartlett, TN, Charles H. Wood (Susie) of Louisiana, Bobby C. Tye (Diane) of Oakland, TN; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walton E. Wood who died April 21, 1949; her parents, Thomas Tilton Harrison and Ellen Vaughan Harrison; her daughter, Mary Louise Hall; her son, Floyd R. Wood; her sister, Marie Wood; and two brothers, Tommy Lee Harrison and George W. Harrison.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jeff Penna, David Pontarelli and Jeremy Tye.
