Ricky Duane Perkins

Richard Duane “Ricky” Perkins, resident of Memphis with extended family members in Fayette County, retired journeyman electrician and husband of the late Bonnie Martindale Perkins died Wednesday morning, May 16, 2012 at his daughter’s residence in Arlington where he had resided for three weeks. He was 61 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Perkins were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, May 18th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton of the New Hope Baptist Church in Collierville officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Perkins was born December 29, 1950 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley L. Perkins and Grace Goodman Taylor. He received his education in the Memphis City Public School System and lived in Shelby and Fayette County areas for most of his life.

Mr. Perkins was of the Christian faith and had been employed by the Ellendale Electric Company as a Journeyman Electrician for over 30 years before retiring for health reasons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Martindale Perkins on December 30, 2011.

Mr. Perkins will be remembered as a person with a great sense of humor and an avid fan of the Memphis Tigers Basketball program. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and motorcycles, fishing, visiting the casinos, dancing and preparing food for his family.

Mr. Perkins is survived by three daughters, Amanda Leigh Perkins of Arlington, Tammy Owens (Frank) of Iuka, MS, Heather Perkins of Atlanta, GA; his son, Wesley Perkins of Memphis; his sister, Wanda Kemp of Memphis; and seven grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Perkins, David Hill, Andre Brock, Frank Owens, Vernon Hill and John Baker.
