Serving Eads from the U.S. Highway 64 Corridor
Eads sits at the edge of Shelby and Fayette counties, with the 38028 zip code spanning both. Peebles operates two chapel facilities along U.S. Highway 64, the same corridor that connects our West Funeral Chapel in Oakland to communities throughout this region. Our service area includes Eads, Collierville, Memphis, Somerville, and surrounding communities across both counties.
Thomas Gordon Peebles purchased the funeral business in 1972. Michael and Jennifer Tilghman carry that tradition forward today, having acquired the funeral homes, cemetery, and cremation center on May 30, 2014. Peebles is one of the few remaining family-owned funeral homes in West Tennessee, operating two chapel facilities and Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery, all along U.S. Highway 64.
Our mission is to provide compassionate and personalized care, offering respectful, dignified, and affordable funeral services. Every member of our team is empowered and expected to do whatever it takes to serve your family well.
Funeral Services for Families in Eads
Peebles helps Eads families design services that fit their needs, their budget, and the life of the person being honored, whether that takes the form of a traditional ceremony, an intimate gathering at the graveside, or something built around stories and personal detail.
Visitation
Time set aside for family and friends to come together, share memories, and offer support. We can personalize the visitation with a tribute video, items and displays important to your loved one, or photographs arranged to tell their story. We work with each family to design the gathering they envision.
Funeral Service
The funeral service can be held at a location of the family's choosing or in one of our chapels. We work with families to design a service around stories, music, or scripture. Life celebrants trained to create experiences that help start the healing process are also available for families who do not choose clergy.
Graveside Service
A brief committal service at the cemetery, held either immediately following a funeral service or as a small, intimate gathering for those closest to your family. This can stand alone as the primary service or serve as the final portion of a fuller ceremony.
Cremation Services for Families in Eads
Peebles offers several cremation options, from a full traditional funeral followed by cremation to a private, simple arrangement. Whatever your family prefers, we work with you directly to build the right service around the person you are honoring.
Traditional Funeral Service Followed by Cremation
Family and friends are invited to visitation and a funeral ceremony, held at our chapel or a location you choose. Your loved one is then transferred to our crematory. Once the cremation process is complete, cremated remains may be returned to your family, placed in a columbarium, buried, or scattered.
Memorial Service or Celebration of Life
A ceremony held before or after cremation, free from the presence of a casket. This can take place at our chapel, a church, or another location your family chooses, arranged with photographs and personal items. Life celebrants are available to lead services where clergy is not chosen.
Direct Cremation
A private disposition without a formal service or ceremony. Direct cremation does not include a viewing, ceremony, urn, or cremation permit; those items are priced separately and may be added based on your family's wishes.
Permanent Memorialization Options After Cremation
After cremation, families may choose from several options for a final resting place. Keeping the urn in your private residence is a common choice, and we can help your family select the right urn. Placing the urn in a columbarium or niche provides a dedicated place to visit. In-ground burial of the urn mirrors the permanence of a traditional burial. Scattering the cremated remains in a location special to your loved one is another option, and Peebles offers a Scattering Stream at the West Chapel property in Oakland for families who want a designated natural setting for this final tribute.
Peace of Mind Cremation
If your loved one is entrusted to Peebles for cremation, they never leave our care. Our state-of-the-art crematory uses an 11-step care and custody barcode verification system, stainless steel ID tags designed to endure the cremation process, and fingerprint archiving. Your loved one is positively identified at every step from the moment they arrive in our care until cremated remains are returned to your family.
Fingerprint archiving also allows us to offer memorialization options including pendants, rings, and other jewelry choices. Once cremation is complete, the remains are placed in the urn of your selection and secured with your loved one's unique stainless steel ID tag.
Signature Services at No Additional Charge
Peebles treats the following as Signature Services, provided at no additional charge to every family we serve, because every family deserves them.
Once the cremation process is complete, we personally return your loved one to you, coordinating that delivery directly with your family. In the weeks that follow, a member of our staff follows up to check on you and see whether there is anything more we can do. Your loved one's online memorial tribute, including obituary, photographs, and a slideshow, remains on the Peebles website for years to come. Flowers from the service can be delivered to your home, typically within a 25-mile radius. We also request duplicate cards for every floral arrangement brought to the service, one to display during visitation and one set aside to help your family write thank-you notes.

Veterans Services for Eads Families
For veterans and their families, Peebles includes the following at no charge with any traditional funeral or memorial service: coordination of Military Honors at our chapel, another facility, or a cemetery; one hand-pressed U.S. Flag; one premium wood flag case in your choice of available wood types; and one 6-inch U.S. Armed Forces Embroidered Emblem.

Can I have a viewing before cremation in Eads?
Yes. The Community Gathering package includes a full visitation prior to the funeral ceremony, followed by cremation. Peebles also offers a final viewing of your loved one by immediate family, limited to 30 minutes, for families choosing simpler arrangements. Embalming may be required depending on the type of viewing selected; your funeral director will explain what applies to your arrangement in writing.
Does Peebles operate its own crematory?
Yes. Peebles operates a state-of-the-art on-site crematory using an 11-step barcode verification system, stainless steel ID tags designed to endure the cremation process, and fingerprint archiving. Your loved one never leaves Peebles' care from the time of transfer until cremated remains are returned to your family. Certified crematory operators handle every step.
What is the difference between a funeral service and a memorial service?
A funeral service takes place with your loved one present, typically before burial or cremation. A memorial service is held after your loved one has been placed in their final resting place and does not include a casket. Both can be held at our chapel, a church, or another location your family chooses. Our life celebrants are available for either format.
Does Tennessee law require embalming?
Embalming is not required by law in Tennessee except in certain specific circumstances. Embalming may be necessary if you select a funeral arrangement that includes a public viewing. Families choosing direct cremation or immediate burial can typically decline embalming. Your Peebles funeral director will explain in writing what is required for your specific arrangement.
